A meeting of the district-level Encord Narco Coordination Center was held on Saturday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap. In this meeting, it was decided that all police officers will run awareness campaigns about drug abuse in all educational institutions of the district during the month of November. Police officers will have to address the children in uniform in the educational institution. It will be strictly prohibited to make children aware about drug abuse without uniform. The Deputy Commissioner said that whenever the police field staff gets time, they should create awareness about drug abuse in the nearest educational institutions.
The Deputy Commissioner has directed that NGOs working in educational institutions and at the Panchayat level will now be required to obtain permission from the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Only after obtaining permission from the District Deputy Commissioner’s office will an NGO be able to operate in educational institutions and under government jurisdiction. The Deputy Commissioner has issued these instructions to all Sub-Divisional Magistrates. The issue of many NGOs not operating effectively on the ground was raised in the meeting.
In collaboration with public representatives, the police have completed 90 percent of the work toward establishing an information system against drug abuse at the Panchayat level. Police are receiving information through the cooperation of local public representatives. Additionally, the police have begun using drones to crack down on illegal cannabis cultivation.

Do not give syringes without prescription – Deputy Commissioner
Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap has appealed to all medical store operators in the district not to sell syringes to anyone without a prescription. Syringes are being widely used for drug abuse these days. Therefore, medical stores should only sell syringes after a hospital prescription is issued. They should also take a copy of the identity card of those they are giving syringes to and keep it on record.
501 arrested in 224 cases this year
This year, 224 cases have been registered under the NDPS Act. 501 accused have been arrested in these cases. 78 kg 287 grams of hashish, 25 kg 631 grams of opium, 3 kg 776 grams of poppy husk, 2.8 grams of smack, 7 kg 342 grams of chitta and 48 grams of MDM have been seized. Of the 501 arrested accused, 414 are residents of Himachal Pradesh, 25 are foreigners, and 62 belong to other states.
