22 Smart Parking Facilities, 24×7 Water Supply, Funicular Transport and Drug-Free Dharamshala Among BJP’s Key Commitments
Misuse of Smart City Funds Will Be Investigated, Accountability for Public Money Will Be Ensured: Sudhir Sharma
Dharamshala is Not Just a Municipal Corporation but Himachal’s Second Capital and a Global Tourism Hub: BJP
Dharamshala, May 12, 2026:
Senior BJP leader and MLA Sudhir Sharma, while releasing the BJP’s “Sankalp Patra” for the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation elections, stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party is committed to transforming Dharamshala into a modern, well-planned, environment-friendly and world-class tourist city. He said that the document is not merely an election manifesto but a comprehensive vision document prepared with a long-term development perspective for the entire Municipal Corporation area.
On the occasion, BJP State Vice President Pawan Kajal, spokesperson Rakesh Sharma, Sanjay Sharma, Vishav Chakshu and District President Sachin Sharma were also prominently present.
Sudhir Sharma said that the BJP’s vision document has been prepared keeping in mind the present requirements and future challenges of Dharamshala city. He added that while BJP candidates have separately highlighted local ward-level issues, the party’s Sankalp Patra provides a long-term roadmap for the holistic development of the Municipal Corporation.
He said the BJP’s priority is to strengthen basic infrastructure, modernize traffic management and improve the quality of life for citizens. With this objective, the party has resolved to develop smart parking facilities at 22 identified locations, ensure 24×7 drinking water supply and construct small dams on major khads for water conservation.
Sudhir Sharma further stated that BJP will initiate a funicular transport project from Charan Khad to Bhagsunag to reduce traffic congestion and promote tourism. He pointed out that the project was originally proposed in the Smart City DPR but failed to materialize due to lack of political will. He assured that once BJP forms the Municipal Corporation, the project will be prioritized.
He also said that BJP will undertake redevelopment of Kacheri Adda and Kotwali Bazaar, construct a modern Dharamshala bus stand and establish direct connectivity with Kotwali Bazaar. In addition, the party plans beautification of major chowks and intersections, construction of a viewing deck at Kainchi Mod, introduction of e-taxi services, cycling and jogging tracks, and implementation of a decongestion policy.
Speaking about women and youth empowerment, Sudhir Sharma said BJP will establish an “MC Cooperative Grid” to promote self-employment and enhance the income of women. For the youth, multi-sports zones, a football academy, skill development centres and startup incubation centres will be established to create employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.
He further stated that BJP will launch a “Doctor on Call” app for senior citizens and regularize houses constructed on government land under the Ashiana Scheme. All Municipal Corporation services will be brought online and applications not addressed within a fixed timeframe will be treated as deemed approved.
Sudhir Sharma emphasized that BJP is committed to making Dharamshala a “drug-free city.” Strict action against drug abuse will be ensured through technology, CCTV surveillance, awareness campaigns and administrative coordination. He stated that an international tourist destination like Dharamshala must be identified with a safe and healthy environment.
Targeting the Congress government and the present Municipal Corporation over Smart City projects, Sudhir Sharma alleged large-scale misuse of public funds in Dharamshala Smart City works. He said many projects remained confined to paper while even completed works lacked transparency and accountability. He remarked that even senior Congress ministers had described the condition of the Municipal Corporation as “worse than a Panchayat” and pointed out that the House had not convened for nearly two years.
He assured that BJP would ensure transparency in all development works and proper utilization of public money. He added that the party would increase the Corporation’s revenue sources, attract private investment and effectively utilize Central Government schemes to make Dharamshala a modern and well-equipped city.
Sudhir Sharma concluded by saying that BJP views Dharamshala not merely as a Municipal Corporation but as Himachal Pradesh’s second capital and an emerging global tourism destination. He said that in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Smart City vision, BJP is fully committed to developing Dharamshala as a centre of modern infrastructure, better transportation, cleanliness, tourism and employment opportunities.
