BJP Claims Massive Panchayat Poll Sweep in Seraj, Wins 24 of 26 Panchayats
Mandi, May 29: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government following the second phase of Panchayati Raj elections, claiming that the party has been “wiped out” across Himachal Pradesh and that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is facing growing pressure due to the government’s poor performance.
Addressing the media, Thakur alleged that the Congress government has failed to deliver on its promises during its three-and-a-half-year tenure and accused it of financial mismanagement, halting development works and burdening people with additional taxes. He claimed that public dissatisfaction with the government was reflected in the Panchayati Raj election results.
The BJP leader further alleged that senior Congress leaders, ministers and even the Deputy Chief Minister failed to secure victories for their preferred candidates in their respective areas. He said the election outcome demonstrated growing public anger against the state government.
Thakur also accused the government of shutting down several public institutions opened in the public interest and claimed that some Congress leaders had distanced themselves from the party due to dissatisfaction with the government’s functioning.
During his visit to Lehthach Panchayat in the Seraj Assembly constituency, Thakur met newly elected Panchayat representatives and congratulated them on their victory. He expressed confidence that they would work sincerely for grassroots development and strengthen local self-governance.
Claiming a strong performance by BJP-backed candidates, Thakur said that in the second phase of Panchayat elections, BJP-supported candidates won in 24 out of 26 Panchayats in the Seraj Assembly constituency, while in the first phase they secured victories in 25 out of 28 Panchayats. He described the results as a reflection of growing public support for the BJP and dissatisfaction with the Congress government.
