Sports will give positive direction to youth, society will stay away from drugs
32 new posts approved for Jubbal Girls Sports School
The closing ceremony of the “Dhar Utsav,” a rural-level volleyball competition organized by the Nav Yuvak Mandal Dhar, was held on Sunday in the Dhar Gram Panchayat of the Jubbal subdivision. State Education Minister Rohit Thakur attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest.
On this occasion, the Education Minister congratulated Nav Yuvak Mandal Dhar for the successful organization of the event and wished all participating athletes for their excellent performance. He said that sports are not just a means of entertainment, but a strong foundation for the all-round development of personality. Sports develop discipline, leadership skills, team spirit, and self-confidence.
He said that the growing drug addiction trend in society is a matter of serious concern. To combat this, all sections of society must work together. He added that sports provide a positive direction to the energy of youth and play an important role in keeping them away from social evils like drug addiction.
The Education Minister stated that the state government is continuously working to strengthen sports infrastructure and provide better facilities to athletes. He added that the government has increased the diet allowance for athletes from ₹120 to ₹220. Arrangements have also been made to honor athletes who excel at the national and international levels.
He informed that training in seven sports, including volleyball, is being provided at Thakur Ramlal Government Girls Sports School, Jubbal. To ensure the effective operation of the sports hostel, the state cabinet recently approved 32 new posts for the school.
Rohit Thakur said that the state currently operates 11 sports hostels, of which the Jubbal Girls’ Sports Hostel is the largest. Training in eight sports, including volleyball, kabaddi, and badminton, is provided here with modern facilities. He said that the state’s girls are bringing glory to the state by performing exceptionally well at the national and international levels. He informed that two students from this hostel have been selected for the Indian girls’ volleyball team for the 2026 World School Volleyball Championship to be held in China this year, which is a matter of pride for the entire region.
Referring to development projects, the Education Minister said that over the past three years, the Jubbal-Nawar-Kotkhai Assembly constituency has emerged as a model area for development. Development projects worth crores of rupees have been implemented in various areas, and many have been completed. He added that construction of a community hall in Gram Panchayat Dhar, costing approximately Rs. 50 lakh, is underway. In the area of road connectivity, the construction and approval of 181 new roads is a historic achievement.
He said that the state government has also made significant improvements in the field of education. Himachal Pradesh has achieved satisfactory and improved rankings in various surveys conducted by the central government. The approval of a Kendriya Vidyalaya in Kotkhai is a major achievement for the region, for which ₹30 crore has been released. He added that to ensure quality education in the state, approximately 9,000 teachers in various categories have been appointed, and the recruitment process for 3,000 posts is underway.
The Education Minister expressed gratitude for the public’s support in the recently concluded Panchayat Raj Institution elections. He said the public demonstrated a positive mindset by placing their faith in the politics of development, resulting in the victory of most Congress-supported candidates in the Assembly constituency.
On this occasion, the Education Minister also announced to provide an amount of Rs 50,000 as an incentive to Nav Yuvak Mandal Dhar.
Jubbal-Nawar-Kotkhai Congress Mandal President Jitendra Mehta, District Council Member Meenakshi Manjta, BDC Member Urmila Chauhan, Gram Panchayat Dhar Pradhan Ajay Sohta, Deputy Pradhan Rakesh Rana, Tehsildar Jubbal Karanveer Singh, BDO Jubbal Karan Singh along with officers and employees of various departments and a large number of local people were present in the program.
