Chandigarh, June 3: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) and is set to assume charge today.
Gupta, who retired from service on May 31, was among 26 candidates who had applied for the post, including several retired bureaucrats. A three-member selection committee headed by the Punjab Chief Secretary met on May 27 to evaluate the applicants and submitted its recommendations to Bhagwant Mann, who took the final decision on the appointment.
He succeeds Vishwajit Khanna, whose tenure ended in April. During the interim period, commission member Ravinder Saini had been serving as the acting chairman.
According to Punjab government officials, Gupta brings extensive experience in public administration and energy sector management, which is expected to strengthen the functioning of the regulatory body.
As PSERC Chairman, Gupta will face key challenges including rational determination of electricity tariffs, ensuring timely release of power subsidies, improving the integration of renewable energy sources, and enhancing the quality of electricity services for consumers across Punjab.
