Shimla, June 24: The Himachal Pradesh Government has constituted Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) for various districts of the state, appointing chairpersons and members for a tenure of three years under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
According to a notification issued by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment on June 24, the appointments have been made under Section 27(1) of the Juvenile Justice Act and Rule 15(2) of the Himachal Pradesh Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Rules, 2026.
For Mandi district, Alaknanda Handa has been appointed as Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee. The committee members include Manvir Singh, Vijay Kumar Kanav, Chuni Lal Awasthi, and Prem Singh Rana.
In Solan district, Neena Verma has been appointed as Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee.
The notification stated that the appointed chairpersons and members will discharge their duties and responsibilities in accordance with Section 30 of the Juvenile Justice Act and Rule 17 of the Himachal Pradesh Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Rules, 2026.
The Child Welfare Committees play a crucial role in ensuring the care, protection, rehabilitation, and welfare of children in need of care and protection, serving as the competent authority under the Juvenile Justice framework.
