Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, playing up the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in the Bihar elections, has promised to restore it on the lines of Himachal Pradesh if the All India Alliance comes to power. Chief Minister Sukhu stated that this promise is not merely for electoral gain but to fulfill Rahul Gandhi’s commitment to transforming people’s lifestyles.
Sukhu, who is in Bihar for election campaigning, addressed a press conference in Patna on Thursday, accusing the current NDA government of lacking development during the state’s 20-year rule. He said that 64 percent of people in Bihar live on just ₹66 per day. He lamented that Bihar, which had the potential to become a major tourist destination, has been left in a pitiable state by the NDA government. Sukhu said that while Bihar’s per capita income is approximately ₹87,000, Himachal Pradesh’s per capita income is ₹2.57 lakh. He emphasized the need for change in Bihar.
Listing his government’s achievements, Sukhu stated that in the first phase, 287,000 women in Himachal Pradesh are receiving ₹1,500, and plans are underway to provide another ₹1,500 in the second phase. The Congress government in Himachal Pradesh has improved the quality of education under the new education policy, moving the state from 21st to 5th in the education quality report. He noted that his government has initiated the transition of public transport to electric vehicles, a major step towards environmental protection. Other Congress leaders were also present.
