A PhD student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi was found dead in his rented accommodation in the Kataula area of Mandi district, triggering a police investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a native of Dalhousie in Chamba district. According to preliminary information, his body was found inside the rented room under circumstances that remain unclear.
Following the incident, police reached the spot and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. A team from the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL) was also called to examine the scene and collect possible evidence.
Police are investigating all possible angles. No suicide note was reportedly recovered from the room, and the exact cause of death is yet to be established. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, which is expected to help determine the cause of death.
Officials said further details will emerge as the investigation progresses.
