Meeting held regarding preparations for Independence Day-2026 celebrations
An important meeting regarding the preparations for the district level celebration of 80th Independence Day-2026 was held at Bachat Bhawan under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Shimla.
The meeting decided that the district-level Independence Day celebration will be held on August 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the historic Ridge Maidan, Shimla. Contingents from the Himachal Pradesh Police, Home Guards, NSS, NCC (boys and girls), Scouts and Guides will present an impressive march past. Police and Home Guard bands will grace the event. Parade rehearsals typically begin on August 11.
At the meeting, the District Public Relations Officer (DPRO) and District Language Officer (DLO), Shimla, were assigned responsibility for preparing cultural events. The programs will include presentations based on patriotism and cultural heritage. The Assistant Commissioner (AC to DC) will ensure the printing and distribution of invitation cards. If the event is declared a state-level event, the General Administration Department (GAD) will print the invitation cards.
The meeting also decided that the public address system for the ceremony would be arranged by the DPRO office. The Shimla Municipal Corporation would be responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of the Ridge Ground, while the AC to DC office would ensure seating arrangements for guests. The Shimla Municipal Corporation would arrange for the distribution of sweets after the ceremony.
In the meeting, Superintendent of Police Shimla and Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) were instructed to make necessary arrangements to maintain law and order.
The Deputy Commissioner called on all departments to coordinate and complete preparations in a timely manner. He stated that Independence Day is a festival of national pride and should be celebrated with utmost dignity, discipline, and enthusiasm. He directed the concerned officials to ensure the timely discharge of their duties. He stated that efforts will be made to involve as many members of the public as possible in the Independence Day celebrations. Himachal played a significant role in the freedom movement. Efforts will also be made to disseminate this information to today’s generation.
*All participants will be awarded a certificate of appreciation*
All participants in the district-level Independence Day parade and cultural programs will receive a certificate of appreciation from the district administration. For this, a list of all participants’ names must be submitted to the AC to DC office before the event.
*People who do incomparable work will also be honored*
People who have accomplished exceptional work in the government and non-government sectors will be honored. Individuals from across the district who have successfully strived to give society a new direction will be selected. The Deputy Commissioner has directed all departments to prepare a list of such individuals.
