Over 90 Students Complete ROS 2 Robotics Training and SummerXcellence Internships in Ambitious 15-Day Programme
WAKNAGHAT, HIMACHAL PRADESH — Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT) has successfully concluded one of its most ambitious student development initiatives of the year — the 15-day ROS 2 Robotics Summer School and SummerXcellence Internships Programme, conducted from May 25 to June 6, 2026. More than 90 students from the first and second years of engineering participated in the programme, which was organised under the special initiative of the Drobotics Lab.
A Vision for the AI Workforce of Tomorrow
Organised jointly by the Departments of Computer Science & Engineering, and Electronics & Communication Engineering, the initiative was anchored by a clear and forward-looking vision: building the AI workforce of tomorrow by fostering an ecosystem of learning, experimentation, and innovation at the earliest stages of an engineer’s academic journey.
Students of First year were introduced to ROS 2 (Robot Operating System 2), one of the most widely adopted frameworks in modern robotic application development. Through hands-on sessions, students tackled real-world challenges, explored contemporary robotics technologies, and developed intelligent autonomous solutions — a rare opportunity for learners still in the early years of their undergraduate programmes.
The ROS 2 Robotics Summer School focused on deep technical immersion in robotics frameworks, autonomous systems, and applied Artificial Intelligence. Students engaged in simulation, prototyping, and problem-solving exercises guided by experienced faculty.
Alongside this, the SummerXcellence Internship track offered students the opportunity to engage in Capstone projects and collaborative development under dedicated faculty mentorship. Emphasis was placed on innovation-driven problem-solving — a skillset increasingly valued by industry and academia alike.
“By investing in younger students today, we ensure a more robust, innovative, and capable industry tomorrow.”
Equipping Engineers for an Emerging Technology Landscape
Head of the Department (CSE & IT) Dr. Pradeep Kumar Gupta stated that the programme reflects JUIT’s long-standing commitment to nurturing future-ready engineers equipped with cutting-edge skills in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics, Autonomous Systems, and Emerging Technologies.
Set against the scenic backdrop of the Himalayan foothills, JUIT’s Waknaghat campus provided an environment conducive to focused learning and creative exploration. The programme’s reach extended beyond the classroom, encouraging students to think critically about the role of intelligent systems in solving real-world problems.
The successful completion of the ROS 2 Robotics Summer School and SummerXcellence Internships marks a significant step in JUIT’s ongoing mission to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry readiness. As demand for professionals skilled in robotics and AI continues to grow both nationally and globally, initiatives such as this position JUIT at the forefront of progressive engineering education in India.
The success of the programme has been widely attributed to the sustained efforts of a dedicated team of faculty and staff. Dr. Aman Sharma, Dr. Vikas Baghel, Dr. Shweta Pandit (Head of Department, ECE), Dr. Shruti Jain (Dean Academics), Mr. Pramod, and Mr. Ajay worked tirelessly throughout the programme, going above and beyond to ensure its smooth execution and positive impact on every participant.
Their continuous dedication, from planning and coordination to on-ground mentorship and student support, was instrumental in transforming a well-conceived initiative into a genuinely memorable and impactful learning experience. The university community has commended their exemplary commitment to advancing student development and academic excellence.
