Shimla June6
Tension gripped Shimla’s Sanjauli area on Saturday after allegations surfaced that a minor girl was blackmailed by a man who allegedly recorded her video and later attempted to exploit her. The accused, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was detained by police following protests by members of the Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti.
According to the minor, the accused first recorded her video and later began blackmailing her. She further alleged that he called her to his shop and attempted to touch her inappropriately.
Despite an FIR being registered at the Women Police Station, protesters alleged that no arrest had been made for nearly 24 hours, triggering public outrage. Members of the Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti staged a demonstration in Sanjauli, blocked roads and demanded immediate action against the accused.
During the protest, the minor also came forward and publicly accused the man of molestation and blackmail. She demanded strict legal action against him.
As the situation escalated, Sanjauli police intervened and took the accused into custody. He was later taken to the police station for questioning.
Police officials said the matter is under investigation and further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
Leaders of the Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti alleged that the delay in action had fuelled public anger and demanded swift intervention in cases involving minors to maintain public confidence in the law enforcement system.
