The vibrant colors, exquisite blooms, and artistic gardening displays that transformed Shimla into a floral paradise over the past few days culminated in the successful conclusion of the annual flower exhibition organized by the Society for Advancement of Garden Environment and Sustainability (SAGES). The event showcased the remarkable talent, creativity, and dedication of local gardening enthusiasts, drawing widespread appreciation from visitors and horticulture experts alike.
The exhibition featured an impressive collection of flowers, ornamental plants, and innovative garden displays across multiple competitive categories. Participants demonstrated exceptional horticultural skills, presenting carefully nurtured blooms that captivated both judges and visitors.
In the group category, Laxmi Das secured the first prize in the Carnation section. The Lily category saw Bhuvneshwar Kumar claim the top position, while Om Prakash finished second. In Gladiolus, Rajendra Kumar emerged as the winner, whereas the Rose category recognized Keshav Ram with the first prize and Avantika with the second. The Alstroemeria section was won by Shishuram from the Horticulture Department. Meanwhile, Mohan Lal dominated both the Sisal and Seasonal Flowers categories, earning first prizes in each, while Arun Kumar secured second place in both sections.
The individual category witnessed intense competition and outstanding performances. Mrs. Geeta Dutta emerged as one of the most successful participants, winning an impressive seven awards. Major Ritu Kalra and Mrs. Surbhi Karol each garnered five awards, reflecting their exceptional gardening expertise and dedication.
For her overall excellence, aesthetic presentation, and consistent performance across categories, Mrs. Surbhi Karol was honored with the prestigious “Best Exhibitor” Award, one of the exhibition’s highest recognitions. Additionally, Swaraj Lalit and A.P.S. Kochhar received two awards each, while Satish Bhalla was also recognized for his notable floral entries.
Beyond the competition, the exhibition served as a platform for promoting environmental awareness and encouraging sustainable gardening practices. The stunning displays highlighted the growing interest among residents in horticulture, biodiversity conservation, and beautification through nature.
Adding a modern touch to the event, organizers introduced a Digital Visitor Book, enabling attendees to share their feedback, suggestions, and experiences electronically. The initiative received positive responses and reflected the organizers’ commitment to innovation and visitor engagement.
Speaking on the occasion, SAGES President Mrs. Sushma Bhardwaj expressed heartfelt gratitude to the district administration for its support and cooperation. She also thanked participants, departments, sponsors, volunteers, and visitors whose collective efforts contributed to the event’s success.
“The overwhelming response to this year’s exhibition demonstrates the community’s growing love for gardening, environmental conservation, and nature. We look forward to making future editions even more grand and inspiring,” she said.
The annual SAGES Flower Show once again reaffirmed Shimla’s rich horticultural heritage, bringing together nature lovers, gardeners, and families in a celebration of beauty, sustainability, and community spirit.
