Science education in Himachal Pradesh government schools is set to move beyond textbooks, with students soon learning through experiments, interactive models and activity-based teaching. In a significant step towards experiential learning, Samagra Shiksha Himachal Pradesh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Agastya International Foundation.
Samagra Shiksha Director Rajesh Sharma said the partnership would play a key role in nurturing curiosity, innovation and scientific thinking among students. He added that activity-based learning is an effective way to strengthen understanding and problem-solving skills, while aligning with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Under the initiative, trained science educators known as “Igniters” will work with students from Classes VI to X. Through experiments, demonstrations and interactive science models, they will help students understand scientific concepts in a practical and engaging manner. The programme will also support teachers by introducing innovative classroom practices and activity-based teaching methods.
Officials said all science models, learning materials, demonstrations and academic support under the programme will be provided free of cost, ensuring that neither schools nor students bear any additional financial burden.
To extend the reach of science education, the foundation will establish Science Centres and operate Mobile Science Labs across the state. These facilities are expected to benefit students in remote and difficult-to-access areas, giving them opportunities to learn through observation, experimentation and innovation.
Students will also get opportunities to participate in “Jigyasa”, a regional and national-level science programme organised by the foundation. The platform will allow young learners to showcase creativity, innovation and scientific thinking while encouraging them to develop solutions to real-life challenges.
The partnership is expected to benefit thousands of students and teachers across Himachal Pradesh and strengthen efforts to promote quality, innovative and experiential education in government schools.
