Solan, August 23
The School of Media and Communications at Shoolini University hosted a guest lecture by its alumna Shubh Rana, an Assistant Producer with an international news organisation.
Rana spoke to students about reporting, anchoring and documentary filmmaking, while sharing insights from her professional journey in the media industry.
She discussed journalistic ethics and responsible communication, saying that journalism goes beyond gathering information and requires journalists to understand different perspectives, earn trust and maintain professional relationships with sources and members of the public.
While discussing news anchoring, she identified confidence, communication skills, body language and audience connection as key elements of effective presentation. Using examples from her career, she explained how anchors could communicate information clearly, maintain credibility and hold viewers’ attention.
Rana also introduced students to documentary formats, shot types, B-roll, montage and other elements of visual storytelling. She asked students to develop documentary ideas and present one- to two-minute synopses, allowing them to apply what they had learnt during the lecture.
Encouraging aspiring media professionals, she urged them to strengthen their communication skills, expand their knowledge and continue learning as the media industry evolves. She also stressed the importance of responsibility and professionalism.
Prof Nishtha Anand, Dean, Faculty of Media and Liberal Arts, Shoolini University, said that sessions led by alumni working with international media organisations and the industry help students connect classroom learning with professional practices in journalism and media production.
