Solan , September 22, 2026: Students of the School of Pharmacy at IEC University used street plays and नुक्कड़ नाटकों to highlight the risks associated with the inappropriate use of antibiotics and the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
The awareness programme was organised on the second day of the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week-2026. Students presented five नुक्कड़ नाटक and 10 street plays, focusing on the need for rational and responsible use of antimicrobial medicines.
The performances highlighted common practices such as taking medicines without medical advice, unnecessary use of antibiotics, not following prescribed dosages and discontinuing treatment before completing the prescribed course.
Through the performances, students urged people to use antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines only under appropriate medical guidance. They also addressed antibiotic stewardship, prevention of infections and responsible medicine-use practices.
The programme also underlined the link between pharmacovigilance and antimicrobial resistance, emphasising that safe and rational use of medicines is important for patient safety and for preserving the effectiveness of antimicrobial drugs.
The event was organised under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof Ashok Puri and Registrar Dr Prahlad Gupta. Faculty members appreciated the students for their participation, creativity and efforts to connect pharmaceutical knowledge with public awareness.
The initiative provided students an opportunity to take the message of responsible medicine use beyond the classroom and engage the community through an accessible form of communication.
