Around 60 contestants from states including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Uttarakhand participated in mega auditions held at the historic Gaiety Theatre on Friday.
The auditions witnessed impressive performances from aspiring singers, giving the competition a strong national identity. Participants were assessed on vocal quality, rhythm, expression, presentation and stage presence by a jury comprising Prof. Dr. Rohit Mokta, Prof. Kamini Shandil and Vinod Channa.
Additional District Magistrate (Protocol) Jyoti Rana inaugurated the event and encouraged the participants, saying such platforms provide young artists with an opportunity to showcase their talent before a wider audience. She described Voice of the Mountains as a significant initiative that helps emerging singers gain national recognition.
Following the auditions, 30 contestants were shortlisted for the Theatre Round scheduled for June 7. The top 10 performers from this stage will earn a place in the grand finale on the main stage of the International Shimla Summer Festival.
The final rounds will be held between June 8 and June 12, where selected contestants will perform before music enthusiasts and visitors from across the country. Organisers said this year’s competition has brought together diverse musical traditions and cultures, creating a unique platform for young talent and opening new opportunities for aspiring artists.
