Sirmour May 13
The panic has gripped in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district after the partially burnt body of a woman was recovered from a dense forest near Karonda Wali Ghati in Kolar village of Paonta Sahib subdivision on Tuesday.
According to police, the body was nearly 95% charred, making identification impossible so far. The gruesome discovery has triggered fear and shock in the area.
Police said they received information from a passerby about a fire burning inside the forest. A team rushed to the spot and found a human body still smouldering. Though the fire was extinguished immediately, the body had already been severely burnt.
Initial investigation suggests the deceased is a woman. Police suspect that the victim may have been murdered elsewhere and her body later dumped in the forest before being set on fire to destroy evidence and conceal identity.
DSP Paonta Sahib Manavendra Thakur and Majra SHO Kuldeep Singh reached the spot along with police personnel soon after the incident was reported. The area has been sealed and a detailed investigation is underway.
To examine the crime scene scientifically, experts from the State Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Junga, have been called in. The forensic team is expected to collect evidence from the site, after which a clearer picture of the case is likely to emerge.
Police said further action would depend on forensic findings and identification of the deceased.
