Manali, August 1: Two people were killed and three others injured after a Maruti Jimny veered off the road and plunged nearly 20 feet into the Manalsu stream near the Club House in Old Manali on Friday, police said.
According to Kullu Police, the accident came to light after information was received through the 112 Control Room, prompting a police team from Manali Police Station to rush to the spot and launch rescue operations.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the black Jimny (registration number HP26A-0011) was travelling from Vashisht towards Manali when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to fall into the stream. Five people were travelling in the vehicle.
The driver, Rohit Kumar (32), a resident of Mandi district, and Karun Bauddh (35), a resident of Bajaura in Kullu district, sustained critical injuries. They were shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared both dead.
The three other occupants—Vivek (30), Naresh Kumar (28), and Urmila (22)—suffered injuries and are undergoing treatment after medical examination.
The bodies of the deceased have been kept at the mortuary in Manali for post-mortem examination, which will be conducted after the arrival of their family members.
Police have registered FIR No. 112/2026 under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Manali Police Station. Preliminary findings indicate that the accident occurred due to rash and negligent driving, resulting in the driver losing control of the vehicle.
Further investigation is underway.
Kullu Police have urged motorists to drive cautiously, particularly on hilly and winding roads, adhere to speed limits, and strictly follow traffic rules to prevent such tragic accidents.
