Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap has earned a place among the country’s “Top 100 Most Influential DMs” in a survey conducted by Fame India, bringing pride to Himachal Pradesh. Five officers from the state featured in the prestigious list, with Kashyap being recognized for his innovative, people-focused and socially sensitive administrative approach.
Known for working quietly beyond the spotlight, the 2014-batch IAS officer has built a reputation for taking impactful grassroots initiatives. One of his most appreciated efforts was adopting a government school in Shimla district and personally funding dictionaries for 273 students, spending nearly ₹70,000 to support their education. He also contributed ₹51,000 from his own pocket to launch the district-level “Sukh Ashray Fund” for destitute children.
In a major anti-drug initiative, Kashyap involved village numberdars in the government’s campaign against substance abuse, strengthening the rural information network and helping authorities receive local intelligence against illegal drug activities.
Before taking charge as Shimla DC in February 2024, Kashyap served in the Transport Department, where he played a key role in promoting electric vehicles. During his tenure, the Transport Directorate became the first Himachal government directorate to shift entirely away from petrol and diesel vehicles.
Fame India’s ranking evaluates district magistrates on parameters such as vision, innovation, public welfare decisions, crisis response and administrative efficiency, while also taking public feedback into consideration.
Highly educated and known as an accomplished debater during his college days, Anupam Kashyap says his priority has always been timely resolution of public grievances and ensuring responsive governance for the people.
