Nestled deep within Shimla’s emerald-green water catchment forests, nature has unveiled one of its most delicate treasures a rare orchid species known as Cephalanthera longifolia
The Sword-leaved Helleborine, a rhizomatous perennial orchid is renowned for its striking white flowers and elegant foliage and typically grows in light woodlands and undisturbed forest habitats. Its fresh bloom has added exceptional beauty to the green landscapes of Shimla’s protected forests.

Sharing with crazynewsindia,Divisional Forest Officer (DCF) Dr.Shahnawaz Ahmad Bhat says during an inspection of the water catchment area with his team, a beautiful but rare orchids was found that reflects the healthy ecological condition of Shimla’s forests. He emphasized that preserving natural habitats and maintaining biodiversity remains a top priority for the Forest Department.
Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmad Bhat DCF further stated that these sensitive orchid species survive only in pollution-free and moisture-rich environments, making their presence ecologically significant. The sighting has also drawn attention towards the rich floral diversity hidden within Himachal Pradesh’s forest ecosystems.
Amid tall deodar trees and filtered sunlight, the rare orchids now stand as living symbols of the untouched beauty and biodiversity of the Himalayan forests.
