Shimla, May 31: The results of the municipal corporation elections in Himachal Pradesh have painted a mixed political picture, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registering impressive victories in Dharamshala, Mandi and Solan, while the Congress emerged as the clear winner in Palampur.
In Dharamshala Municipal Corporation, the BJP secured a commanding lead by winning 11 out of 17 wards, while the Congress managed to win five seats. One seat was won by an independent candidate.
The BJP also maintained its strong performance in Solan Municipal Corporation, where it has so far won six seats, while the Congress and independent candidates secured one seat each.
A similar trend was witnessed in Mandi Municipal Corporation, where the BJP swept 12 of the 14 wards, leaving the Congress and an independent candidate with one seat each.
However, Palampur Municipal Corporation presented a contrasting outcome. The Congress recorded a near-clean sweep by winning nine out of 10 wards, while the BJP managed to secure only one seat.
The results highlight the BJP’s continued influence in key urban centres such as Dharamshala, Mandi and Solan, while the Congress demonstrated its strength in Palampur, setting the stage for an interesting political contest ahead in Himachal Pradesh.
