Solan, August 26: The Health and Family Welfare Department, Solan, organised a district-level quiz competition as part of an intensified IEC campaign during the HIV and AIDS Awareness Fortnight. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ajay Pathak presided over the programme.
Dr. Pathak said the objective of the initiative was to promote correct and scientific information about general health, adolescent health, HIV and AIDS, and blood-borne infections among young people while strengthening overall health awareness.
He encouraged students to share important health messages with their families, friends and communities. He emphasised the importance of safe behaviour, timely testing, access to treatment services and respectful, non-discriminatory treatment of people living with HIV and AIDS.
Dr. Pathak said adolescents and young people can play a vital role in promoting positive health behaviour and awareness in society. He added that accurate and scientific information about HIV and AIDS and other blood-borne infections is essential to reduce misconceptions, fear, stigma and discrimination.
Six teams participated in the district-level competition. The teams were selected through an online quiz competition organised in various schools. The online competition ensured wider participation of students at the school level, with the best-performing teams advancing to the district-level round.
On the occasion, the Chief Medical Officer honoured the winning participants of the competition.
