The Women Cell of Government Girls College, Shimla, organised a Sawan and Monsoon Festival with great enthusiasm and cultural spirit.
Women Cell Convener Dr. Sandhya Sharma said the objective of the event was to connect students with Indian culture, civilisation, folk traditions and the natural beauty of the Sawan season. Principal Dr. Anurita Saxena highlighted the religious and environmental significance of the holy month of Sawan. She said that Sawan is considered the favourite month of Lord Shiva and symbolises the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, while also representing the rejuvenation and beauty of nature.
She encouraged students to strengthen their connection with nature and promote environmental conservation. Dr. Saxena said that along with offering water and Bel leaves to the Shivling, people should also plant a tree, describing plantation as a true form of worship of nature.
She also cautioned students about health issues caused by water-borne diseases during the monsoon season and urged everyone to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.
Students from the Dance Department presented captivating performances, including Shiv Stuti, Garba and Ghoomar dances. A Mehndi competition was also organised on the occasion.
In the competition, Preeti from BCA secured the first position, Parul from B.Voc stood second, Swati from BA Second Year secured third place, Varsha from BA Third Year finished fourth, while Reena from MA First Year secured the fifth position.
All members of the Women Cell, faculty members and a large number of students participated in the celebrations.
