Shimla: A fresh landslide struck the Bothwell area near Sanjauli College in Shimla early on Saturday, triggering panic among residents and leaving several houses under threat.
The incident occurred at around 4 am while most residents were asleep. No casualties have been reported, but the landslide has raised concerns over the safety of multiple residential buildings in the area.
According to local residents, a portion of the slope below the road leading to Sanjauli College collapsed, sending debris downhill towards residential houses. The pathway providing access to the houses has also been damaged after caving in at the centre, disrupting connectivity.
Residents said three to four buildings are now in the danger zone and fear that further slope movement could lead to a major accident if heavy rainfall continues.
People living in the affected area rushed out of their homes soon after the landslide and remained outdoors in the rain from around 4 am, awaiting assistance. They alleged that police personnel reached the spot only after repeated calls and advised them to vacate their homes as a precaution.
However, the affected families said they have no alternative accommodation and are uncertain about where to relocate if evacuation becomes necessary.
Authorities are expected to assess the stability of the slope and determine further measures to ensure the safety of residents.
