‘Mothers Against Drugs’ theme highlights women’s role in building a drug-free and violence-free society
The event was held in front of the Shimla Police Assistance Booth and witnessed enthusiastic participation from women representing various ICDS blocks of Shimla district. Local residents and tourists also joined the traditional folk dance, enjoying the cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh while supporting the social cause.
Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the International Shimla Summer Festival, Anupam Kashyap, administered a pledge to the participants under the theme “A Mother’s Resolve – Society’s Resolve.” The women pledged to strongly oppose drug abuse, particularly the menace of chitta (heroin), violence, and all forms of social misconduct.
As a mark of appreciation, all 320 participating women were honored with certificates of recognition for their contribution to the awareness campaign.
During the event, participants raised powerful slogans such as “Every Mother’s Call – Say No to Drugs and Violence,” “A Mother’s Message – Keep the State Free from Drugs,” “Leave Chitta, Embrace Values,” and “Violence Against Daughters Will Not Be Tolerated.” Through these messages, they sought to educate the public about the harmful effects of drug addiction and the need to prevent violence against women and girls.
The Maha Nati not only showcased Himachal Pradesh’s rich cultural traditions but also served as a strong platform to promote social awareness, community participation and collective responsibility towards building a healthier and safer society.
