A canter loaded with bricks crashed through the railing of Binwa bridge and fell into the gorge during heavy overnight rain in the Baijnath area.
According to preliminary information, the canter was crossing the bridge when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. It hit the bridge railing, broke through it and plunged into the stream below. The impact also damaged the bridge’s safety railing.
A crowd gathered at the spot soon after the accident. A picture of Lord Hanuman was also found at the site and was reportedly recovered safely from the vehicle. The incident has become a topic of discussion among local residents, some of whom have linked the safe recovery of the picture to their faith.
Baijnath hospital authorities said one person reached the hospital with minor injuries but did not undergo treatment. Police station in-charge Yadesh Thakur said the police were investigating the incident.
The damaged railing has also raised safety concerns among residents, who have urged authorities to repair it at the earliest to prevent a more serious accident in the future.
