Mandi worst affected with 39 road closures; state estimates ₹955 crore loss
Shimla: Monsoon-related disruptions continued across Himachal Pradesh, with 109 roads blocked in several districts, while 250 drinking water schemes have been affected, according to the latest assessment.
Mandi district is the worst affected, with 39 roads closed to traffic, followed by Kullu with 33 and Shimla with 13. Chamba has nine road closures, while Una and Kangra have six each and Sirmaur has five.
The disruption has also affected drinking water supplies across the state. Of the 250 affected water supply schemes, 212 are in Mandi alone, leaving several subdivisions facing interruptions in water supply.
Power infrastructure has also suffered damage, with 10 transformers reported faulty across the state. Shimla accounts for seven damaged transformers, while Kullu has two and Chamba one.
₹955 crore damage assessed
The state has so far estimated monsoon-related losses at ₹955 crore. The Public Works Department has suffered the highest damage, with losses estimated at ₹717 crore.
Authorities have advised residents to take weather warnings seriously and exercise extra caution in vulnerable and landslide-prone areas.
181 deaths reported since June 30
The monsoon death toll in Himachal Pradesh has continued to rise. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, 181 people have died in rain-related incidents since June 30, including 103 deaths in road accidents.
During the same period, 283 people have been injured and one person remains missing. Heavy rain, landslides and other weather-related incidents have completely damaged 82 houses, 14 shops and 258 cattle sheds across the state.
