The Himachal Pradesh Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission (HP-PERC) on Wednesday held an interactive session aimed at developing a unified vision and strengthening collaborative efforts for the improvement of higher education in private institutions across the state.
The session on “Unified Vision and Collaborative Efforts for Improvement in the Higher Education Sector in Private Institutions” was organised at the HP-PERC Conference Hall in Shimla under the chairmanship of Commission members Lalit Kumar and Vijay Pal Singh. The meeting was attended by the Secretary, HP-PERC, along with chancellors, vice-chancellors and registrars of 16 private universities.
During the interaction, participants discussed the future roadmap for improving the quality of education in the private higher education sector. Key issues deliberated upon included deadlines for approval of courses, concerns related to fake degrees, disclosure of information by private universities on their websites and the role of promoters in the functioning of universities.
Representatives of private universities also shared their views and challenges in achieving the common goal of improving placements, employability and career opportunities for students of Himachal Pradesh.
The Commission emphasised the need for greater transparency in internal assessment, prevention of unfair practices and strengthening examination integrity. Discussions also focused on the digitisation of examination and evaluation processes, timely declaration of results and academic calendars, moderation and standardisation of internal assessment, and the establishment of strong and timely student grievance redressal mechanisms.
A consensus was reached to organise a conclave in the near future on “Institutional Contribution, Future Priorities and Government–University Partnership for a Common Vision in Higher Education.”
