Samagra Shiksha evaluates learning levels of Class VI students in 4,677 schools across Himachal
Shimla: In a major initiative aimed at improving learning outcomes in government schools, Samagra Shiksha conducted a baseline assessment of Class VI students under the Learning Enhancement Programme (LEP) 2.0 across Himachal Pradesh. More than 68,000 students from 4,677 government middle, high and senior secondary schools participated in the exercise.
The assessment evaluated students’ learning levels in Science, Mathematics, English and Hindi. The primary objective was to understand the current academic competency of students and identify learning outcome gaps, enabling schools and teachers to provide academic support according to the actual educational needs of students.
Special remedial support for academically weak students
Based on the assessment, Samagra Shiksha will launch a special remedial support programme for the bottom 25 per cent academically weak students identified through the survey. Under the programme, focused academic interventions and corrective measures will be introduced to bridge learning gaps and improve students’ academic performance.
After completion of the remedial programme, an endline assessment will also be conducted to evaluate students’ progress and measure the improvement in their learning levels achieved through these interventions.
OMR-based technology used for evaluation
A key feature of the baseline assessment was the use of OMR-based answer sheets, ensuring uniformity, transparency and efficiency in the evaluation process across the state.
The OMR sheets are being scanned through the SwiftChat application of the Vidya Samiksha Kendra, making the evaluation process faster, simpler and technology-driven.
Samagra Shiksha Director Rajesh Sharma said the baseline assessment conducted under LEP 2.0 is an important step towards understanding the actual learning levels of school students. He added that academically weak students identified through the assessment would be provided special academic support to ensure significant improvement in their learning abilities.
