Shimla: The laying of a new drinking water pipeline will begin in Kasumpti ward from tomorrow under Package 5 of the Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL)’s 24×7 continuous and pressurised water supply project. Work under the same package is expected to begin soon in Panthaghati ward as well.
The pipeline network is being laid by SUEZ India as part of the project aimed at strengthening Shimla’s drinking water infrastructure. Work on infrastructure for supplying water through new pipelines is already underway under Packages 1, 2, 3 and 10.
The project includes the construction of new water tanks and the provision of new house service connections through the upgraded pipeline network. The objective is to establish a safer, more reliable and continuous pressurised drinking water supply system across Shimla.
As part of the project’s public outreach efforts, NGO teams are conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns in the wards where the work is being undertaken. Residents are being informed about the nature and schedule of the works, while their concerns and suggestions are also being recorded.
Kasumpti ward councillor Rachna Sharma has directed the SUEZ and SJPNL teams to ensure that residents face minimum inconvenience during the construction work. She also stressed the need for adequate precautions and coordination while executing the project.
Residents have been urged to cooperate with the project teams as the city works towards developing a modern and more reliable drinking water supply network.
