New Delhi, June 5
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a one-year extension in the tenure of former Himachal Pradesh cadre IAS officer Tarun Kapoor as Adviser to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

According to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Kapoor, a retired 1987-batch IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, will continue in the rank and scale of Secretary to the Government of India for a further period of one year with effect from June 10, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Kapoor has been serving as Adviser to the Prime Minister and is considered one of the key bureaucrats associated with policy formulation and governance matters at the Centre. Before joining the PMO, he held several important positions in the Government of India, including Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
The extension reflects the Centre’s continued confidence in Kapoor’s administrative experience and policy expertise.
