Shimla: A private bus allegedly collided with a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus while attempting to overtake on the busy IGMC Road in Shimla on Monday, triggering panic among commuters and passers-by.
According to eyewitnesses, the private bus driver tried to overtake another vehicle but allegedly misjudged the manoeuvre, resulting in a collision with the HRTC bus. While no serious injuries were reported in the incident, locals said the accident could have had far more serious consequences.
Residents alleged that some private bus operators often indulge in reckless driving and ignore traffic norms in a bid to pick up more passengers and get ahead of competing buses, putting the lives of commuters and other road users at risk.
Following the incident, locals urged the Transport Department and the police to take strict action against errant drivers and intensify enforcement of traffic rules to prevent similar accidents in the future. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
