Shimla, August 27
A month-long free coaching and physical training camp for youths preparing for police recruitment concluded successfully at the 1st Armed Police Battalion, Junga, on Thursday.
A total of 468 trainees, including 310 boys and 158 girls, from different districts of Himachal Pradesh participated in the camp. Free accommodation and meals were provided to all the trainees during the one-month training programme.
Commandant of the 1st HPAP Battalion, Bhupinder Singh Negi, said the initiative was aimed at providing a free platform to local youths and candidates from remote areas of the state, particularly those belonging to economically weaker families, to help them prepare better for police recruitment.
During the camp, trainees received indoor coaching in general knowledge, mathematics, reasoning, Hindi and English. The outdoor training focused on running, physical efficiency, prescribed physical standards for police recruitment and discipline.
Negi said the battalion’s officers and staff, along with residents of Shimla and Junga, volunteered to arrange free food and accommodation for all trainees. Bobby, who runs a free langar at the IGMC Cancer Hospital, also made a significant contribution to the initiative.
Free medical check-ups and first aid facilities were also provided to trainees who suffered injuries or faced health-related issues during the training.
The Commandant said the camp was a major support for aspiring police recruits, particularly those who may not have the financial resources to access professional coaching and training facilities. He added that the initiative also contributed to economic activity for shopkeepers and small businesses in Junga.
At the closing ceremony, trainees expressed their gratitude to the officers and staff of the 1st HPAP Battalion. They said receiving free coaching, physical training, food, accommodation and medical facilities at a single location proved highly beneficial and helped them prepare with greater confidence for the upcoming police recruitment process.
