SHIMLA,MAY7
The weather conditions in Himachal Pradesh have changed once again, with the Meteorological Centre forecasting clear weather across the state for the next three days. However, the department has also issued a fresh alert for thunderstorms, rain and lightning on May 11 and 12.
According to the weather department, several parts of the state may witness gusty winds blowing at speeds of 30–40 kmph, accompanied by thunder and rainfall during these two days.
The recent spell of intermittent rain and hailstorm over the past four days has significantly altered weather conditions across Himachal Pradesh, bringing February-like chill even in the month of May.
In tribal regions, especially Lahaul-Spiti, the minimum temperature has dropped close to the freezing point. Light snowfall has also been reported on higher peaks, leading to an average drop of around 3.3 degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures across the state.
The sudden weather shift has adversely affected apple orchards and other stone fruits. In lower areas, wheat harvesting and threshing activities have been disrupted, while rainfall has damaged crops in several places.
The Meteorological Department stated that light rain may occur at isolated places on Thursday, while weather conditions are expected to remain dry from May 8 to 10.
