Inaugural Session of FDP 2021 under Centre for Human Rights, HPNLU Shimla

Centre for Human Rights, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla is virtually conducting a seven day Faculty Development Programme w.e.f. 5th April to 11th April, 2021, on the topic “Human Rights in Contemporary India: Issues and Challenges.” The inaugural session was conducted online on 5th April, 2021 at 11:00 am in the presence and supervision of Prof. (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal, Hon. Vice Chancellor of HPNLU, Shimla who delivered the thematic address apprising the faculty members and research scholars, from all across the nation, about the nuances of Human Rights Jurisprudence. Prof. Jaswal highlighted human rights violation of vulnerable section of society and enumerated several instances of gross human rights violation of women and children.
The inaugural address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) V. Vijayakumar, Hon. Vice Chancellor, National Law Institute University, Bhopal reiterating that rights and duties go hand in hand, being supplementary and complementary to each other. Prof. Vijayakumar said that human rights shall be construed as a social condition rather than a demand. One can respect and acknowledge the Human Rights of others by consciously discharging duties which he owes to the community at large, he added. Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh, Former Hon. Vice Chancellor, National Law University, New Delhi, graced the occasion with his presence as Chief Guest of the Session. He highlighted the grey areas of Human Rights Jurisprudence and asked the Centre to take up research on them. The Welcome Address and Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Ruchi Sapahia, Director, Centre for Human Rights, HPNLU, Shimla and co-ordinated by Mr. Anirudh Sood.
The Faculty Development Programme is intended to sensitize the participants in the area of Human Rights.
