New Delhi: The Centre has appointed Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani as the next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), succeeding General Anil Chauhan. The appointment marks a significant transition in the country’s top military leadership amid ongoing efforts to strengthen jointness and theatre command reforms in the armed forces.
Lt Gen Subramani, known for his vast operational experience and strategic leadership, has served in several key positions during his distinguished military career. He is expected to assume office after Gen Anil Chauhan demits the post.
General Anil Chauhan, who took over as the country’s second CDS in 2022, played a crucial role in advancing military integration and enhancing coordination among the Army, Navy and Air Force.
The Chief of Defence Staff acts as the principal military adviser to the Defence Minister and is responsible for promoting synergy among the three services, along with overseeing major defence reforms and modernization initiatives.
