Forest Officials, Locals Battle Blaze in Loha and Bhalawag Forests
Shimla, May 29: A major forest fire broke out in the Loha and Bhalawag forests of the Junga region on Thursday evening, causing significant damage to forest wealth and wildlife habitat. Forest officials estimate that nearly 25 hectares of forest area have been affected by the blaze.
According to Jaswinder Singh, the affected area falls under the Chevda Forest Beat. He said forest department personnel, along with local residents, have been working continuously to contain the fire. A section of the blaze was brought under control after a fire line was created to prevent its spread.
Jaswinder Singh said forest fires during the summer season are often triggered by miscreants, resulting in the destruction of valuable forest resources, loss of wildlife and serious environmental damage. He appealed to residents to actively support forest protection efforts and remain vigilant against those responsible for such incidents.
The firefighting operation is being led by Veena Kashyap along with forest staff including Kushal Sharma, Labbu Ram, Sunil Kumar and members of the Koti Range forest protection team.
Officials expressed confidence that with continued efforts by the forest department and local communities, the remaining fire will soon be brought under control.
