Shimla: To remove a major traffic bottleneck on the roads of the state capital, work has gained pace on a major redevelopment project at Chhota Shimla. An open junction, on the lines of the Dhalli tunnel crossing, will be developed to ensure smoother movement of vehicles towards Tolland and Kasumpti.
As part of the project, shops located between the parking area and Ashiana will be removed. The old Chhota Shimla police station building will also be dismantled and reconstructed after redevelopment of the site.
A new location will be identified for the Rajiv Gandhi statue, while the police station will be temporarily shifted during the construction work. On the opposite side of the road, the space near the Secretariat parking area will also be widened by around 5 to 6 metres.
Officials said the Ashiana restaurant will not be affected by the ongoing process at present. The district administration and the Public Works Department are currently working on the land acquisition process.
