Shimla, May 8: BJP state president Dr Rajeev Bindal on Thursday accused the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh of trying to influence municipal elections by misusing the administrative machinery and undermining democratic values.
Addressing mediapersons, Bindal alleged that the cancellation of the nomination papers of a BJP-supported candidate from Ward No. 3 in the Solan Municipal Corporation elections was part of a “well-planned conspiracy” by the Congress government. He said the Himachal Pradesh High Court later intervened and allowed the candidate to contest the elections.
“The High Court decision has exposed the Congress government’s attempt to hijack the elections,” he said.
Bindal claimed that BJP candidates and workers faced mental harassment due to the incident and alleged that the state government was using pressure tactics and abuse of power to influence election outcomes.
He further said that people in the state were dissatisfied with the Congress government over issues including corruption, economic mismanagement and anti-development policies, and would give a “befitting reply” in the elections.
The BJP leader asserted that the party would continue to fight to protect democratic values and expose what he termed as undemocratic actions of the Congress government.
