Shimla, June 22: In a major relief to thousands of pensioners, the Himachal Pradesh government has announced that all remaining pension and family pension arrears arising from the revision of pension with effect from January 1, 2016, will be released in July 2026. The decision applies to government pensioners and family pensioners who retired before January 1, 2016.
According to an Office Memorandum issued by the Finance (Pension) Department on June 22, the state government has approved payment of the entire balance arrears, bringing the cumulative release of pension arrears to 100 per cent. With this final installment, no pension arrears will remain pending for eligible pre-2016 pensioners and family pensioners.
The memorandum states that previously released interim relief and dearness relief installments will be adjusted against the gross arrears, and only the net payable amount will be disbursed. Pension Disbursing Authorities (PDAs), including banks, have been directed to ensure that any recoverable excess payment is adjusted before releasing the final amount.
The government has also instructed all pension-disbursing agencies to complete the drawal and distribution of arrears during July 2026. The move follows a series of phased releases made over the past few years as part of the state’s efforts to clear long-pending pension liabilities.
The decision is expected to benefit a large number of retired government employees and family pensioners across Himachal Pradesh, many of whom had been awaiting full settlement of arrears linked to the 2016 pension revision.
