March-past, cultural performances mark celebrations

Shimla, August 16: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at Government Senior Secondary Schools in Piran and Janedghat in Junga tehsil.

At Piran, Principal Rakesh Verma, and at Janedghat, Principal Dr Sohan Ranta unfurled the national flag and took the salute at the march-past presented by students. The celebrations witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers and local residents.

Addressing the gathering, Rakesh Verma paid tribute to the freedom fighters and urged students to draw inspiration from their sacrifices and contribute towards strengthening the unity and integrity of the country.

Students presented patriotic songs and Himachali folk performances, besides colourful dance and cultural programmes. The performances received an enthusiastic response from the audience and added to the festive atmosphere.

The schools also screened the Chief Minister’s Independence Day message from the state-level function held at Barsar in Hamirpur district through LCD screens. Students, teachers and others present listened attentively to the message.

Independence Day was also celebrated with enthusiasm at Government Degree College Chail-Koti, Government Senior Secondary Schools Koti, Dubblu, Chheekhar and Juggar, and Government High School Dhali and Government Middle School Trahai. Students at these institutions presented patriotic songs, dances and cultural performances, making the celebrations memorable.
