DC Anupam Kashyap orders surprise inspections, seeks coordinated action against drug trafficking and addiction
Shimla , July 29: The Shimla district administration will conduct surprise inspections of all de-addiction centres during August to ensure compliance with prescribed standards, Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap announced while chairing a meeting of the District NCORD Committee on Tuesday.
During the meeting, an NGO representative highlighted the alarming rise in drug abuse among children as young as 13-14 years, stating that many are using syringes for substance abuse, increasing the risk of hepatitis and other life-threatening health complications. The representative stressed the need for counselling of both addicted children and their parents.
Responding to the concern, the Deputy Commissioner said protecting the younger generation requires collective action from all stakeholders. He directed the police to expedite investigations into the assets of those involved in drug trafficking and instructed the Revenue Department to promptly submit identification reports to assist police investigations.
DC Kashyap further announced that after the inspections, the administration will organise a special workshop for de-addiction centre operators and other stakeholders, where experts will provide guidance on improving rehabilitation services and ensuring adherence to standards.
The meeting reviewed the district’s anti-drug campaign, including police action against drug traffickers, cases registered under the NDPS Act, and awareness and rehabilitation initiatives undertaken by the Health, Education, Social Welfare and other departments.
Emphasising that a drug-free society can only be achieved through collective efforts, the Deputy Commissioner called upon the administration, police, government departments, voluntary organisations and the public to work in close coordination to strengthen the fight against substance abuse.
