The second day of the ‘Aarambh’ orientation programme for newly admitted students of the 2026-27 academic session was held at Shimla University (APG) on Tuesday. A medical fitness check-up was also organised for the students in association with IGMC, Shimla.
The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and Saraswati Vandana. Students from Himachal Pradesh, various parts of the country and abroad attended the event.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajendra Singh Chauhan, who presided over the programme, welcomed the students and advised them to remain confident, disciplined and committed to their goals.
He said university education was not limited to obtaining a degree, but was also an important phase in the overall development of a student’s personality. He urged the students not to be discouraged by difficulties and said self-confidence, honesty, dedication and hard work were essential for success.
Prof Chauhan said the university aimed to provide academic knowledge along with practical exposure and value-based education. Referring to the university’s academic journey and infrastructure, he said its alumni were serving in government institutions, private organisations and multinational companies in India and abroad.
Registrar Prof R L Sharma, while addressing the students, explained the university’s motto, “Where Nature Nurtures Young Minds”. He said students should learn from nature and contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.
He also apprised the students of the University Grants Commission guidelines and the university’s rules, regulations and disciplinary framework.
As part of the orientation programme, the university organised a medical fitness check-up for the newly admitted students in collaboration with IGMC, Shimla. The health team examined the students and provided them with basic guidance regarding health, fitness and well-being. Dr Parveen Bhatia, Deputy Medical Superintendent, and Pharmacy Officer Sunil Thakur were associated with the medical fitness initiative.
Pro-Chancellor Dr Amesh Chauhan, adviser Engineer Suman Vikrant, Dean Faculty Prof Ashwani Sharma, Dean Academics Prof Anand Mohan Sharma, Dean Students’ Welfare Prof Neelam Sharma, Dean Management Dr Niti Nag, Head of the Department of Law Dr Bhawana Verma, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication Dr Pyar Singh, Senior Media Manager Dr Vijay Shree, heads of various departments and faculty members were present.
During the two sessions held on the second day, the students were introduced to the university campus, academic departments, student clubs, institutional facilities and the placement cell.
The university authorities assured the students of a safe, supportive and modern academic environment, along with adequate academic, medical and student-welfare facilities.
