A Heavy monsoon rain wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, with flash floods in Chamba district sweeping away several vehicles and causing panic among residents. The sudden surge in water levels in a seasonal stream, triggered by intense rainfall, left multiple vehicles submerged and washed downstream, highlighting the destructive impact of the ongoing monsoon across the hill state.
Eyewitnesses said the water level rose within minutes following a spell of torrential rain, giving vehicle owners little time to react. Videos from the affected area, which quickly went viral on social media, showed cars being tossed around by the powerful current as floodwaters rushed through the locality.
The incident comes amid continuous rainfall across several parts of Himachal Pradesh, where the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rain in isolated areas. Authorities have cautioned residents to stay away from rivers, streams and low-lying areas, as the risk of flash floods and landslides remains high.
The district administration and disaster management teams are closely monitoring the situation. Officials have appealed to people to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions and to immediately report any emergency to local authorities. Restoration teams have also been kept on standby to clear blocked roads and restore essential services wherever required.
The ongoing monsoon has already disrupted normal life in many districts of Himachal Pradesh, with landslides, road closures and waterlogging reported from several locations. Authorities are continuously assessing the situation and urging tourists as well as local residents to follow official weather advisories before planning any journey.
Weather experts have warned that rainfall activity is expected to continue over the next few days, increasing the possibility of flash floods in vulnerable areas. The administration has advised people living near rivers and seasonal nullahs to remain vigilant and shift to safer locations if necessary.
