The orientation programme for newly admitted students for the 2026–27 academic session began at Shimla University (APG) here today.
Students from Himachal Pradesh and different parts of the country attended the first-day activities, which included registration, document verification, ID card enrolment and distribution of induction kits.
The programme began at 10 am at the Admission Block, where university officials and faculty members assisted students in completing admission formalities. Measurements were also taken for the stitching of departmental uniforms.
Special assistance counters were set up to provide information regarding classrooms, hostels, identity cards, departmental uniforms and other facilities available on the campus. Queries raised by students and their parents were addressed by the university staff.
After completing the registration process, the students were divided into faculty-wise groups and taken on a tour of the campus. They were familiarised with their respective departments, classrooms, laboratories, library, auditorium, administrative offices, hostels and sports facilities.
The students were also briefed about the academic system, class schedules, discipline, departmental activities and opportunities available in sports, cultural programmes, clubs and other co-curricular activities.
A basic amenities stall was set up to provide information about essential services and student support facilities on the campus. The initiative was aimed at helping the newcomers adjust to the university environment.
A DJ session was organised in the evening to encourage interaction among the students and provide them an opportunity to get acquainted with their classmates.
Registrar Dr R L Sharma welcomed the students and wished them success in their academic journey.
He said the university was committed to providing a safe, supportive and student-friendly environment to students coming from different states.
“The university will provide all necessary academic and residential facilities, including well-equipped laboratories, library, hostels, sports infrastructure and opportunities for cultural participation,” he said.
He advised the students to maintain discipline, work hard and make the best use of the resources and opportunities available at the university.
