SUEZ has intensified restoration work on roads and pedestrian pathways damaged during the laying of new drinking water pipelines, with the company stating that repairs are being carried out on a war footing to minimise inconvenience to residents.
Working alongside the Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL), SUEZ is implementing the city’s ambitious 24×7 potable water supply project. The company said pipeline installation has been completed in most parts of several municipal wards, while work is continuing rapidly in other areas.
According to the company, roads excavated for pipeline installation are being restored with cement immediately after the work is completed to ensure smooth movement of pedestrians, particularly during the ongoing monsoon season. Areas that were originally paved with tiles will be restored in phases, with the same tiles being reinstalled once weather conditions permit.
SUEZ said the current priority is to make all damaged roads and stairways safe and accessible for the public. Full restoration, including the relaying of tiles where they previously existed, will be undertaken at the earliest.
The company has also issued strict instructions to contractors to maintain the highest standards of quality in all repair and restoration works. It acknowledged that persistent rainfall has slowed the pace of repairs but maintained that no compromise would be made on workmanship or public safety.
Appealing for public cooperation during the execution of the project, the company said temporary inconvenience is unavoidable while underground pipelines are being laid. However, it assured residents that all complaints and issues related to restoration would be addressed promptly.
